About the Wine

Taylor’s holds one of the most extensive reserves of very old cask aged Port of any producer. They include a collection of rare Single Harvest Ports. These are Ports from a single year which age to full maturity in seasoned oak casks and display the year of harvest on the label.

Taylor’s has decided to make a limited release, each year, of a Single Harvest Port made 50 years previously.

The fourth in the series is the 1967 Single Harvest.

Taylor’s Managing Director, Adrian Bridge, commented: "A 50th birthday or anniversary is a landmark occasion. Taylor’s Single Harvest Ports offer a unique opportunity to celebrate with an extraordinary 50 year old wine in perfect condition.”

The Taylor’s Single Harvest Port is presented in the classic frosted bottle associated with Taylor’s celebrated range of Aged Tawny Ports and will be presented in a high quality wooden box. Quantities are limited so requests for allocations should be made as soon as possible.

Tasting Notes

Delicate tawny brown colour with a broad amber rim displaying olive highlights. A complex symphony of aromas on the nose, with notes of apricot, sawn wood and tobacco, scents of orange flower and honeysuckle, all on a rich mellow base of toffee, marzipan and almond. Dense, concentrated, velvety palate lifted by a crisp acidity, with a confit of apricot, guave and raisin, flavours of butterscotch and a hint of caramelised orange. A wonderfully opulent and complex wine with a lovely youthful freshness.

ACCOLADES

This draws you in, with aromas of warm halva and toasted pistachio giving way to a wide range of buckwheat, toasted sesame, walnut husk, menthol and licorice root notes that refuse to break down in the mouth. Rare Single Harvest Port: I love Port and wish it was more popular in this country. It is one of the most carefully and elaborately made wines on earth, following age-old practices and strict laws, and like French champagne, these assure high levels of quality. Of all the top port houses, none is as well-known as Taylor Fladgate, and each year, the famous house releases a limited amount of a Single Harvest Port made 50 years previously. For this winter, the “new” offering is a rare Single Harvest Port from 1967. Unlike Vintage Port, which ages in the bottle, this is a far rarer cask matured wine that is ready to drink now, upon bottling. It’s a no-brainer gift for anyone born in 1967 and turning the big 5-0 next year, but any wine fan will appreciate it - the 1967 earned a remarkable 98 points from Wine Spectator and comes in a handsome wooden gift box.
